The FRIENDS raise most of their funds from selling used books.  Traditionally, we have held book sales a few times a year.  The thought arose that the FRIENDS could sell books continually at the Lee Road branch.  So, after the Lee Road library building reopened after its major renovation in 2006, the FRIENDS set up an ongoing book sale near the main entrance.  In 2011, the inventory was moved upstairs to a new permanent bookshop, named Harvey & FRIENDS, in honor of local legend and book sale patron Harvey Pekar.  The shop is open whenever the library is open and features an extensive selection of used books and a variety of audio-visual materials such as audio books, CDs, VHS tapes and DVDs.  The stock comes from materials donated by the public and from items the library culls from its collection.

Regular prices are very reasonable and members of the FRIENDS receive a discount on all purchases.

The FRIENDS continue to hold frequent special sales featuring reduced prices.  On the first Friday of each month, a “bag sale” allows patrons to fill a grocery bag for a fixed price.

Twice a year, a MEGA Sale is held over an entire weekend.  FRIENDS members are invited to a special preview evening before the sale is open to the public.  These sales are “don’t miss” events!  Check our calendar for the schedule of upcoming sales.

Harvey & FRIENDS bookshop is run by volunteers and overseen by the Board of the FRIENDS.  Volunteers are always needed to sort donated books, stock and maintain the shelves, assist patrons and help during special sales.  Call the FRIENDS office at 216-932-3600 x 1234 and leave a message or email info@friendsheightslibraries.org that you would like to help out.

The FRIENDS also sell books and special items on e-Bay.  Check out current offerings online by doing an Advanced Search by seller: friends_htslibraries.  Some special offerings are also available through the Special Sales webpage and in the shop.

FRIENDS are glad to support an award winning library system.
